“And the singers, the sons of Asaph, were in their places, according to the command of David, Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun the king’s seer. Also the gatekeepers were at each gate; they did not have to leave their position, because their brethren the Levites prepared portions for them”
2 Chronicles 35:15
Here we see the strength of love and unity with each one doing what they were called to do. The Levites were those men whose job it was to be the helpers of the priests and to serve wherever needed. They were selfless servant leaders. When they helped the others with such a practical thing as food the others were able to continue their tasks uninterrupted.
Never underestimate the power of servanthood. No matter how small or insignificant it might seem, acts of serving can be used powerfully by God to help others. As a servant leader your goal should be to lift others up, to help them do what God is raising them up to do. If you are blessed, their ministry might become greater than yours. Do not be so high in your own eyes that you are unwilling to help another fulfill his calling. Each one must do what God has ordained, but the highest calling is one of servanthood. “But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant” (Matthew 23:11). Everyone is called to this high position of servanthood.
Servant leaders are those who look for opportunities to help their brothers; they put the needs of others above their own needs; they thrive on being helpful and seeing that the ministry of their brother is more important than their own. Your flesh will fight this God given calling. You might be tempted to think that you do not have the time. Take the time and trust what you have to do to God. He knows that you also have much to do and He will help you fulfill your calling because He is a good Father and He has also called you to certain things. Don’t be unwise and overburden yourself but do be generous in helping others. As you walk in the Holy Spirit you will know when to give help and when to turn to your own tasks. If we deny ourselves, take up our cross, and help one another, do you not know that God will help you, maybe even send others to help you?
Take a moment and reflect on how you use your time. How much of your time is spent helping others fulfill their calling? What can you do to become the servant of all?
