Help Us!

“Then Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them with an army of a million men and three hundred chariots, and he came to Mareshah. So Asa went our against him, and they set the troops in battle array in the Valley of Zephathah at Mareshah. And Asa cried out to the Lord his God, and said, “Lord, it is nothing for You to help, whether with many or with those who have no power; help us, O Lord our God, for we rest on You, and in Your name we go against this multitude. O Lord, Your are our God; do not let man prevail against You!”

2 Chronicles 14:9-11.

Asa knew his army was outnumbered almost two to one but his trust was not in the numbers but in God. In the natural things looked really bad. However, Asa knew in his heart, which was declared with his tongue, that God was able to help them. So they marched in faith in the Name of the Lord all the while crying to God for help.

As leaders there is something we should never be ashamed to do—cry out to God in our desperation! It is the principle of crying out to God. The principle is simply this: When we cry out to God He hears us and comes to help us. Let your cry include these things:

  1. Praise for His power: Lord, it is nothing for you to help! In other words, there is nothing you cannot do to help those who put their trust fully in You! Our strength is irrelevant, our resources, wisdom will not win this victory—only God!

  2. Declare your trust: Help us, for in You we rest and in Your name we advance! Our victory depends upon You and in You alone therefore we will not fear but pray and trust in Your name—that is, in Who you are.

  3. Pray for His intervention: Do not let man prevail against you! Those armies are not coming up against us but God! As Asa cried out to God he actively transferred the battle into God’s hands. It was not longer ‘us against them’ but ‘God against them’. Through prayer, faith, and declaration of the greater truth, this battle was cast into God’s hands. Asa knew it and God affirmed it giving the battle into the hands Asa and Judah.

Take the three points above and teach them to someone who is currently under spiritual attack.
