Preserved

“So the Lord preserved David wherever he went.”

I Chronicles 18:6b

The background to this verse are all the victories of war which David fought. Time and time again he was able to conquer his enemies, for David believed in the promise of the Lord that He would establish his house forever. If you read carefully chapter 17 you will discover that David’s faith in the Lord’s promise of an eternal kingdom combined with his humility of heart and prayerful leadership was the reason for his preservation.

When the man of God knows and has faith in the Word of God to his life and ministry he will have great confidence and great victories. To be sure the battles will come. The enemy is not going to roll over and just let you walk right over him, he will fight. Yet this is where faith in God gives the victory. Faith will keep you, and prayer will lead you.

Fear is often paralyzing. It stops a man in his tracts. There was a time I was climbing a very steep mountainous rock (free hand) and I made the mistake of looking down. The thought of tumbling head over heals down that rock face and going splat on the layer of rock below filled my mind! Never in my life had I felt such paralyzing fear. I literally could not move and quickly informed my rock climbing partner of my predicament. He was just ahead of me but quickly retreated to my position giving me step by step direction down off that mountain of terror. I had to put my trust in my friend to get me down, and he did.

There may be moments like that in your life and leadership. You may come to a complete stop not knowing what to do next. Fear of what might happen fills your mind. Fear of failure is a huge card Satan loves to play against us. Call on your Friend. Jesus will either pick you up and deliver you completely from attack, or He will show step by step what to do if you trust in Him. Call on the One who knows exactly what you are facing, and then trust Him to walk you out of trouble. He will preserve you as he did David. He will help you as my friend helped me. What’s more, God is committed to fulfilling his promise to David through you. His eternal kingdom continues through His church and through such men as will humbly walk before Him in faith.

Take some time and begin to thank the Lord for His promises to David and to you. Read chapter 17 and allow the Holy Spirit to infuse your life with faith, humility, and prayer.
