Absolute Trust

“And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord…He trusted in the Lord God of Israel, so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah . . . For He held fast to the Lord; he did not depart from following Him, but kept His commandments . . . The Lord was with him (Hezekiah); he prospered wherever he went. And he rebelled against the king of Assyria and did not serve him. He subdued the Philistines . . .

2 Kings 18:3, 5, 6, 7, 8

Hezekiah prospered simply because he did what was right in God’s sight. He did what was right because he had absolute trust in God. There is no substitute for trust. Mere will power is not sufficient. Fear is able to curb our responses, but can never substitute for complete trust. The fundamental motivation for obedience must be absolute trust in the one who gives the commands. In this trust one finds the peace and security needed to do things which might otherwise not seem good to do. As God’s ways and thoughts are higher than ours, trust is essential because there will be many times when it seems God is leading us in the wrong direction. In order for trust to reside in our hearts there must be something else. There must be the understanding that God is good in all His ways. He is never evil and He does not desire our destruction, but always has in mind our good.

Here is the end of that trust — God’s blessing. God was with Hezekiah and gave him success because of his trust in Him. That trust led Hezekiah to destroy the high places and break in pieces the idolatrous images of that day. His trust in God led him to full obedience to God. Trust is not some mere mental assent, but finds it’s way into action. Hezekiah proved his trust. He acted upon his trust. Those who DO will find blessing, not those who THINK only.

There is not one of us that wants to fail. No one wants to do the wrong thing. We all want to be successful and have God’s blessing. Herein we find the simple answer to successful leadership: Learn to fully trust in God. To know Him is to trust Him. Therefore, in all our learning we must acquire the knowledge of the Most High.

Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any area in your life where you are not fully trusting God. This revelation may not come immediately, perhaps God will show you in the days ahead. Then take whatever action need to fully put your trust in God.
